Southern Child

I’m a child of the
south
born to a small
tin roof house
and wildflowers by the side
of a two lane road
Honeysuckle blooms,
red clay, and
long drawn out “i” sounds
Fishing at night
Yes ma’am
No sir
Sunday morning church service
A tire swing in a big tree
and Patsy Cline playing through the
speakers of an old Ford
A front porch swing and
line dried linen
I’m a child of the south
born to love a slowed down
simple life

  1. Love this. Being in the South, those wildflowers and honeysuckle, all my favorite things. Except for this blasted heat!
